Fountain University, Osogbo, has recorded another major milestone in its commitment to strengthening healthcare education and practical learning with the official handover of a newly completed dedicated Laboratory Complex for the Department of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS). The facility was formally handed over to the University Management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim, during a brief ceremony attended by members of Management, staff, and student representatives today. The newly constructed complex is designed to serve all major areas of specialization within the Medical Laboratory Science programme, including Histopathology, Haematology, Chemical Pathology, and Medical Microbiology. Each of the 4 laboratories within the complex has the capacity to accommodate a minimum of 72 students simultaneously, significantly improving the University’s practical training capacity and learning environment. With the completion of the new facility, the existing MLS laboratory will now be rededicated to postgraduate studies and research activities for academic staff, further strengthening the University’s growing research culture and postgraduate development efforts. The project, which was funded through the University’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), reflects the institution’s sustained investment in infrastructural development and academic advancement. Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor commended the contractor for the timely completion and delivery of the project, describing the facility as another important addition to the University’s expanding healthcare training infrastructure. Prof. Karim reaffirmed Management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for quality teaching, learning, and research, particularly within the health sciences. She also disclosed that the University would soon commence the construction of a dedicated complex for the School of Nursing as part of ongoing efforts to expand facilities across critical academic programmes. “This development is part of our broader vision to provide modern and functional facilities that support academic excellence and professional competence,” she stated. “We remain committed to investing in projects that directly impact students’ learning experiences and strengthen our institutional capacity.” Also speaking at the event, the Dean of the College of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Prof. Moriam Dasola Adeoye, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for prioritizing the growth of the Medical Laboratory Science programme. The Head of Department and student representatives similarly commended the Management for bringing the project to reality, describing the new complex as a transformative development that will greatly enhance practical training and academic delivery. The completion and handover of the dedicated MLS Laboratory Complex further reinforces Fountain University’s reputation as a forward-looking institution committed to excellence in healthcare education, research, and infrastructural development.
