The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the association, led by its President, Professor AbdulWasiu Àjàgbé, to the Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University, Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, at her office.
The Muslim Lecturers Association is a faith-based professional body that serves as a platform for Muslim academics and researchers across higher institutions. Since its establishment on December 4, 2014, the association has remained committed to promoting scholarship, research, professional development, and nation-building initiatives guided by Islamic values and principles. Among its activities are the provision of research grants to members, academic networking, mentorship, and mobilization of institutional support across universities.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Àjàgbé expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for her support for members of the association within Fountain University. He particularly acknowledged the sponsorship provided by the University Management for members of staff to participate in the association's national conference held in Kano last year.
According to him, the confidence reposed in Fountain University by the association stems from the institution's demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, staff development, and the successful hosting of scholarly engagements. He therefore formally informed the Vice-Chancellor of the association's decision to bring its third National Conference to Fountain University, scheduled to hold between October 26 and October 29, 2026.
The MLA President noted that the association's maiden conference was hosted by Summit University, Offa, while the second edition took place in Kano. He expressed optimism that Fountain University would provide an enabling environment for what is expected to be another successful gathering of Muslim academics and researchers from across Nigeria and beyond.
Responding, Professor Karim welcomed the proposal and officially accepted the offer on behalf of the University. She thanked the association for considering Fountain University worthy of hosting such an important national event and assured the delegation of the University's readiness to provide the necessary support for a successful conference.
The Vice-Chancellor observed that the proposed MLA conference joins a growing list of major academic and professional gatherings already scheduled to take place at Fountain University in 2026. She highlighted the University's increasing attractiveness as a venue for conferences, workshops, and scholarly engagements, citing several upcoming events, including conferences being organized by various colleges of the University, a collaborative conference between Fountain University and the NASFAT Missionary Institute, as well as a proposed conference by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria (MRTB).
She noted that the MRTB's decision to consider Fountain University as a conference host followed a recent professional resource visitation during which members of the Board expressed satisfaction with the University's facilities, infrastructure, and academic environment.
Professor Karim reaffirmed the institution's commitment to supporting initiatives that advance knowledge, research, professional development, and societal progress, adding that the University would work closely with the Muslim Lecturers Association to ensure a memorable and impactful conference.
The visit concluded with discussions on future collaborations and a shared commitment to strengthening academic engagement, research excellence, and value-driven scholarship.
The decision by the Muslim Lecturers Association to hold its 2026 National Conference at Fountain University further reinforces the institution's emergence as a leading hub for academic discourse and professional engagement in Nigeria's higher education landscape.
